Cusco

The historical town of Cusco is a bustling town where there is a lot to do. The main square, an artisan centre, Cathedral and great nightlife are just some of what Cusco offers. Outside of Cusco there are many surrounding villages to visit including the Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo Market and nearby ruins, as well as adventure activities such as white water rafting or horse riding, which can all be booked as excursions through us.

Cusco is the main base for all visits to Machu Picchu including day trips and treks. The train station in Cusco is where these adventures begin and we can arrange transport and train tickets for you.

A taste of some excursions you can pre-book:

  • Machu Picchu Day Trip from Cusco
  • Sacred Valley, Pisac and Ollantaytambo Full-Day Tour from Cusco
  • Rainbow Mountain in One Day from Cusco
  • Peruvian Cooking Class and Local Market in Cusco
  • Cusco Rafting and Zipline Adventure

OUR TIP: We would recommend staying in the Sacred Valley as part of your holiday. After a few nights in Cuzco, you will be transferred to the Sacred Valley for a night and from here you can take the train for your visit to Machu Picchu. Highlights of the Sacred Valley include the markets and the Inca citadels of Pisac and Ollantaytambo along with other Inca sites.

WE SUGGEST: When combining Cusco with Lake Titicaca we can arrange an overland transfer through the Andes which is a better alternative to a flight. Spend the day travelling along the Andes, stopping for lunch en-route, and see the beautiful countryside of Peru. It is a great way to experience the country.

Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu (“old mountain” in Quechua, the ancient language of the Incas) nestles on top of a mountain high above the Urubamba River in the middle of the cloud forest. Machu Picchu was announced as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007. It is one of the most visited sites in the World.

All trips begin in Cusco to the village of Aguas Calientes. It is from Aguas Calientes that you make your way to Machu Picchu. There are a number of ways to visit Machu Picchu to suit all interests and budgets which we can arrange for you.

We would recommend thinking about the experience you want to have and we can discuss all the options with you to make your experience unforgettable.

Day Trip to Machu Picchu from Cusco or Sacred Valley

Trains depart from Cusco and the Sacred Valley in the morning and you will travel by train to the village of Aguas Calientes. There is a selection of trains suited to different budgets. These include a backpacker train, the standard Vistadome train or the luxury Hiram Bingham train.

On our organised day trips you will be met by a guide and brought to Machu Picchu for your guided tour of the ruins. You will have time to explore both Machu Picchu and Aguas Calientes before returning to the train station for your afternoon train to Cusco.

Overnight in Aguas Calientes - Sunrise in Machu Picchu

This is a great option and adds that little extra element to your itinerary. As per the day trip you will take the train to Aguas Calientes and enjoy your guided tour of the ruins. In the afternoon, you will check in to your hotel and you have the afternoon and evening to explore and enjoy the village.

In the morning you will rise early and take the bus to Machu Picchu to watch the sunrise over the ruins. Spectacular! After a morning at leisure to explore the ruins further or perhaps climb Huayna Picchu you will return to Cusco by train.

3 Night/4 Day Inca Trail

One of the most famous treks in the World, the Inca Trail is a lifetime dream for many. It is a 43km stone-paved trail built by the Incas to Machu Picchu. The trail takes 3 nights, where you camp each night with your group. Along the way you experience stunning scenery, see Inca settlements and the wildlife and flora and fauna, before arriving at Machu Picchu by passing through the Inti Punku or Gateway of the Sun.

There are a limited number of permits allowed for the Inca Trail so early booking is essential. We will arrange all aspects of the booking for you and give you a great list of what to pack and bring with you for the trek!

Lake Titicaca

Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the World. Its beautiful landscape is a protected area of this natural ecosystem and forms a natural border between Peru and Bolivia. The main town on the lake is Puno and there is a wide choice of accommodation options here to suit all budgets. From Puno the main two attractions on the lake are the Islands of Uros and Taquile. Both Islands can be included on a day trip and we will arrange this for you.

Uros Islands

Located within the Titicaca National Reserve, the Uros consist of more than 50 small reed islands that are manmade and floating. They are named after their builders who still live here after centuries, maintaining their traditional way of living.

Taquile Island

This island is famous for its knitting men. People here wear colorful clothes that are handmade and sold everywhere on the island. There are no streets here, only agricultural terraces and paths through wonderful countryside. With a little luck, you can even see until Bolivia and the Cordillera Real.

OUR TIP: As well as doing day trips to the Islands we can arrange an overnight on the islands for you where you will do a homestay and spend the night with a local family. You will spend time with them and experience their way of life. The accommodation is basic but it would be an unforgettable experience.

Arequipa & Colca Canyon

Arequipa is situated in the south of Peru in a fertile valley between the coast and the mountains. The “White City” is the second biggest urban center of Peru and a touristic highlight with its wonderful colonial mansions made of white volcanic sillar stone. The city boasts an impressive Cathedral (visited from the outside), the church La Compañía with its clusters and the City within the city - the monastery Santa Catalina.

The Colca Canyon is located about 100 miles (160 km) northwest of Arequipa. It is Peru's third most-visited tourist destination and best known as one of the world's deepest canyons, reaching a depth of over 13 feet (4.160 m). Its depth can most easily be appreciated from the Cruz del Condor, a viewpoint where Andean Condors can be seen most days throughout the year.

As part of your visit to this area you can add on a stay in Arequipa with an overnight package in the Colca Canyon area. See below a sample of our itinerary:

Day 01 - Arequipa – Colca Canyon
You will be picked up at the hotel in the morning and make your way into the more than 100km long Colca Canyon that is 3.400m deep at its deepest point. On the way, you stop in the national park Aguada Blanca where vicuñas and alpacas turn into photo motives. You reach the highest point of the tour, the volcano viewing point at 4.910m. From here, you have a breathtaking view onto the snow-capped peaks of the mountains Misti, Ampato and Sabancaya. After lunch in Chivay, you check in to your hotel and have the option to bath in the thermal baths of La Calera in the afternoon.

Day 02 - Colca Canyon – Arequipa/Puno
After an early breakfast, you go to the viewing point Cruz del Condor, the Condor Cross. With some luck, you can observe the majestic animals in their volplane over the depths of the canyon. The colonial churches of Maca and Yanque are next on schedule, also different viewing points with fantastic landscape motives to take pictures of. Later, you go back to Arequipa, arrival in the late afternoon. Alternatively, you can continue the trip from the Colca Canyon to Puno (Lake Titicaca) (incl. box-lunch).

Amazon

The Peruvian Amazon encompasses almost 60% of the country and is the fourth largest rainforest in the World. It boasts a multitude of natural biodiversity and wildlife and is one of the best places in the world to experience the rainforest. The area is home to thousands of indigenous birds, animals and plants, villages, local tribes, cities and jungle lodges!

We offer a variety of lodges to suit all budgets and will arrange your flights and jungle package for you including transport, accommodation and activities. We can also arrange an Amazon cruise for you.

Below is a sample itinerary of one of our 3 night/4 day Peruvian Amazon Packages:

After a 40min boat ride, you reach Corto Maltes Lodge where you make yourself comfortable in your rooms or take a swim in the pool. The first walk into the rainforest awaits you after lunch. Get to know giant trees, medicinal plants and with some luck, you will see parrots and tucans when the sun goes down. There is the possibility to watch out for caimans before dinner.

Day 02 - Corto Maltes Lodge
With the sunrise, you will go to the parrot clay lick, not far away from the lodge. Dozens of different kinds of parrots come here to eat from the clay rich with minerals and salt in order to clean their systems. It is a colorful spectacle that you should not miss at all. After the breakfast, you go by boat to “Monkey Island” where you do a jungle walk. Your destination is Lake Sandoval where hoatzin, squirrel monkeys and maybe the family of giant otters can be spotted. Dinner at the lodge.

Day 03 - Corto Maltes Lodge
After a relaxing breakfast, you can take a bath in the pool before starting another expedition. This morning, you go by boat to a local community. Here, you learn more about a project that helps to preserve the cultural values of the Ese’eja. Traditions and customs are demonstrated with pride; afterwards, you go visiting the plantations of cacao, coffee and different fruits. You go back to the lodge and enjoy the afternoon from the terrace while sitting in the deckchair and watching the sun goes down above the rainforest. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 04 - Corto Maltes Lodge – Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast in the lodge, you go back to Puerto Maldonado by boat. Here, you visit a local market where many different exotic fruits are sold and some of them invite you to taste them. Afterwards, transfer to the airport.
