Visas

Generally, visas are not required for stays of less than 90 days. However, we suggest you check with the Costa Rican embassy in Dublin to confirm requirements.

Weather

The highest rainfall occurs between August and October. December to April/May is considered the dry season, though the country's temperate climate means that some rainfall is still to be expected.

Currency

Both Costa Rican colones and United States dollars are accepted in Costa Rica. Credit cards are generally accepted, though often not in small towns or rural areas.

Tipping

Some restaurants will include a service charge in your bill. Tipping guides, drivers and hotel staff to show your appreciation for good service is acceptable.

Smoking

Since 2012, Costa Rica has enforced strict regulations which prohibit smoking in public places.

Vaccinations

Necessary vaccinations are recommended four to eight weeks before departure. Please consult with your healthcare professional.
