The Ship

Marella Explorer 2 is purpose-built for adults ship, which gives it a calmer feel from the outset. It tends to suit couples, friends and solo travellers who prefer a quieter environment without the busier pace you often get on family-focused ships. There are several dining options, comfortable cabins, a gym and spa, plus a few pool areas and whirlpools. Evenings are informal, with live music, quizzes, and shows in the Broadway Lounge. You can take part as much or as little as you like.

The Itineraries

Most cruises depart from either Las Palmas or Santa Cruz de Tenerife and run for seven nights. You’ll visit a mix of the main Canary Islands, and quite often Funchal is included as well. There's usually a sea day built into the week. It breaks things up nicely and gives you time to enjoy the ship without feeling rushed.

Las Palmas, Gran Canaria

A good starting point with a bit of everything, from golden beaches to volcanic scenery. If you arrive early enough, the old quarter of Vegueta is worth a look. You can also explore the nearby Bandama Caldera volcanic crater.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Many visitors use this as a base to reach Mount Teide National Park. Others stay closer to the port and explore the city itself. One highlight is definitely the futuristic Auditorium.

La Gomera or La Palma
These islands are quieter and greener, with lush forests and rugged coastlines. Expect slower-paced days and scenic drives through smaller towns.

Funchal, Madeira
A regular highlight. Known for its hillside setting, botanical gardens, cable car rides and scenic views over the harbour.

Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
Lanzarote stands out for its volcanic scenery and moon-like national parks, while Fuerteventura is more about long beaches and open coastline. Both ideal for adventure seekers and sun worshippers.

Food, Drink and Evenings

The all-inclusive setup is one of the main perks here. Meals in the main restaurants and buffet are included, along with most drinks, so you’re not constantly thinking about extra costs. There are a few speciality restaurants available for a supplement, if you want to change things up.

Entertainment is easy-going rather than high-energy. You’ll find live bands, theatre shows, themed evenings, and films shown on deck. It’s there if you want it, but never feels overdone.
