Not wishing to spend a wet Paddy’s weekend in Cork I made a quick decision to get away. I had always wanted to go to Brussels so decided it would be the perfect choice.
I got great rates through Shandon Travel- flying from Dublin and staying in a 5* centrally located hotel with breakfast included! We took it easy on our first night- Friday- to be ready for our day of sightseeing on Saturday.
Saturday morning we took the Red Hop On/ Hop Off city bus tour and it was excellent. We finished in time to hit O’Reilly's Irish bar, where we watched the rugby match surrounded by a great atmosphere! Later on, purely by chance, we found a Vietnamese restaurant where we ate stunning food and probably one of the best meals that I have had for ages.
The following morning [Sunday] we took the train to Bruges- it’s every bit as impressive as you hear about; a two or three night break here would be very nice. There is plenty to do and see and we were also hugely impressed with the shopping! There was a great selection of restaurants and pubs. We took the train back in the evening and dined in our hotel. We had a great day.
On Monday we visited the European parliament for a few hours- the Parliament wasn’t sitting but the place is worth a visit. Afterwards we visited a museum of music and strolled around before taking the coach back to the airport. It was a fantastic weekend getaway and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
