A Wonderful Family Holiday in Alicante: Our 5-Day January Escape

If you're looking for a fantastic family holiday destination, Alicante should be on your list! We enjoyed an amazing five-day break in this vibrant city and fell in love with its charm. January was a great time to visit, with mild weather, fewer crowds, and plenty of things to see and do.

Exploring the City

Alicante itself is a gem. The city has beautiful architecture, fascinating museums (many of which offer free entry), and a great selection of restaurants and cafes. One highlight of our trip was indulging in the best chocolate brownie we’ve ever tasted!

Alicante also offers so much beyond the city centre. Here are some of the highlights that made our trip unforgettable:

• The Largest Palm Park in Europe: just a short drive away, this stunning park is perfect for a relaxing walk.
• Santa Bárbara Castle: a must-visit, especially at sunset. The panoramic views from the top are amazing.
• Beautiful Beaches: Alicante’s long, sandy beach is a great spot for a family stroll or some downtime by the sea.

Benefits of Renting a Car

Renting a car made our trip even more enjoyable. The roads are well-maintained, and driving was a breeze. It allowed us to explore some incredible nearby destinations, including:

• Guadalest Valley: a picturesque spot with a turquoise lake nestled between mountains and a castle perched above.
• Algar Waterfall: known for its warm water, this natural wonder is perfect for a quick dip and taking some amazing photos.
• Rio Safari Zoo: a hit with the kids, giving them a unique wildlife experience.

There are some charming nearby cities, like Villajoyosa, Benidorm, Altea, and Calpe. Each of these have their own unique vibe and attractions, from colourful streets to scenic coastal views.

Alicante combines sun, sea, palms, and a vibrant blue sky to create the perfect holiday atmosphere. A holiday here offers something for everyone, from relaxing beaches to cultural experiences and lovely landscapes. If you're considering a family getaway, Alicante is a 10/10 in our book.
