Last month Amy and Lorraine got to experience the amazing Ovation Of The Seas cruise ship which is one of Royal Caribbean's newest ships.
Our trip began from Gatwick Airport, in which we were met by Royal Caribbean Representatives. We then travelled by coach to Southampton port which was approx 1 hr and 40 minutes. As we were getting closer to the port, we could get a glimpse of the ship, I couldn't believe the size of it from a distance, never mind when we got to it!! It is "massive" We checked in at port and went through security and made our way to guest relations where we checked in and received our cabin details and map of the Ship. We were then advised time is our own to discover all the facility's on board. Our cabin was on deck 12 which was a superior balcony room. The Cabin itself was spacious enough for 2 people, which had king/twin size bed, living area with sofa and dresser area also the balcony area had 2 sun loungers.
For lunch we headed to the Windjammer restaurant. The restaurant itself is buffet style and had various food choices of international dishes, so there was something there for everyone, also a lovely patisserie cake area, which had really fancy style cakes!! After our Lunch, we went up to deck 16 ,to where all the well known "first of sea innovations" are, like Quantum and Anthem of the Seas, Ovation of the seas has the ripcord by iFly, a sky dive simulator, the North star, seaplex which is huge indoor entertainment area, which features bumper cars, large amusement/video games area and a xbox room, Unfortunately we did not get to try any of these as they had to be pre-booked before hand and we were not aware of this , but it was good to see others lose their lives on the sky dive stimulator!! Lol. We also went inside to the amusement area, where we went for a little drive in the bumper cars!! Also on the Ovation they have 2 promenades, one above the other also known as the Royal Esplanade. Both of these decks offer numerous restaurants which are included in your cruise, some may have a service charge, due to popularity and size.ovation offers dynamic dining, where you have no set dining times,no assigned seating and no required formal nights. Restaurants included in this are Silk,The Grande, chops grille, Jamie's Italian, ,wonderland Imaginative and chic plus many more. We also visited the Bionic Bar, where the bartenders are robots. The bar itself is pretty high tech, where you order your cocktails from a iPad and you can watch the robots make there drinks. We did have a waiting time of 13 minutes per drink so its not a bar you would be staying around all evening. The promenades also featured a very large casino and high end designer shops like Cartier, Michael kors, swarovski etc.
That night on board, we had a dinner reservation for Chic , which is a contemporary style restaurant with glamorous style decor. After our lovely meal, we went to Vintage Bar, which is a wine bar, where they serve wines from all over the world. Later on that evening we went to Boleros which is a lively bar that had salsa style music, followed by a live band in the music hall venue.
All in all, we had a fabulous time on board, and I would definitely recommend the Quantum class, loved the idea of the dynamic dining and that this class is not as formal as others.
