La Baume, Fréjus: A Family Holiday on the French Riviera

Lynda and her family stayed at 5-star La Baume in Fréjus on the Côte d’Azur in June, flying from Cork to Nice with car hire to get the most of the beautiful French Riviera. Read her blog:

"La Baume is a great option for families looking for a holiday that combines plenty to do on-site with the chance to explore the French Riviera. We decided to hire a car, which I would recommend if you want to get out and see more of the surrounding area. It isn't essential, though, as there is a bus stop right outside the park.

Arriving at La Baume

When we arrived, the reps were extremely friendly and helpful. Our mobile was ready before lunchtime, so we were able to check in early. The reception area was excellent and had a lovely little swap shop. Guests could leave behind toys, pool accessories, food and books they no longer needed, and other families could take what they wanted. There were plenty of pool inflatables and toys being passed on, which was a simple but really useful idea and helped avoid unnecessary waste.

Our Accommodation

We stayed in a 3-bedroom Ultimate Mobile, which was a really comfortable option for our family. The Ultimate mobiles have more space and a modern layout, with linen and towels included. The kitchen was particularly well equipped, with a full oven and hob, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, kettle, toaster, dishwasher and a full-size fridge and freezer. There was also a large TV in the living area, along with a generous decking area and gas BBQ.

There were three bedrooms: a large double room with plenty of storage and a good-sized vanity unit, a twin room and a room with bunk beds which the children loved. The bathroom was spacious too, with a large shower and extra storage.

For me, one of the biggest advantages of the Ultimate Mobile was the extra space and the fact that the beds were already made when we arrived. Cleaning is also included when you leave, so there is no need to spend your last morning cleaning the place.

I would definitely recommend looking at the Ultimate options if they are available for the park you are considering. They are only offered at selected parks across Europe and would work particularly well for families with older children too. Get in touch if you would like more information about this.

The Park

La Baume has a relaxed feel and is smaller than some of the larger parks we've stayed at. We actually really enjoyed this. There was less rushing around for sun loungers and fewer queues for the restaurants and shops.

There are two pool areas, one at either end of the park, with slides suitable for both younger and older children. The slides kept the kids entertained throughout the week, while there is also an indoor pool for smaller children.

The on-site shop was excellent and had such a good selection that you wouldn't need to leave the park just to stock up on essentials. There is also a bakery within the shop, selling fresh pastries, croissants, doughnuts and cookies each day.

There are two restaurants, a takeaway and two bars on site. We ate at the restaurant and were really impressed with both the choice of meals and the value for money. I would definitely recommend it.

Exploring Fréjus and the French Riviera

La Baume is in a really good position for exploring the area. Fréjus is just a five-minute drive away, with a beach, shops and restaurants along the promenade. You can also walk from Fréjus to Saint-Raphaël, which we enjoyed. I thought Saint-Raphaël was the nicer area, and the children particularly enjoyed the carousel and big wheel along the way. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from too.

There are lots of day trips possible from La Baume, including Nice, Cannes and St Tropez. One of our recommendations is visiting Port Grimaud on market day, which takes place on Thursdays and Sundays. Port Grimaud is a beautiful village with canals that give it a little Venice feel. You can hire small boats to explore the waterways, or, as we did, take the ferry across to St Tropez.

The ferry cost €17 return per person and was a lovely way to travel, particularly as you get to see all the yachts along the waterways as you approach St Tropez. It was a highlight for the children. We spent a few hours in St Tropez having lunch and exploring before taking the ferry back to Port Grimaud.

For more family activities close to the park, Aqualand Fréjus waterpark and Luna Park are both nearby. Please ask us for more information on visiting these.

Would we go back?

We spent a week at La Baume and really enjoyed both the park and the surrounding area. We've had lots of customers return from La Baume with the same feedback, saying they loved the park and the area. We would definitely return ourselves. Next time, we'd like to make more time for day trips to Cannes and Nice."
