Experience Namibia’s desert, then go on safari in search of African wildlife on this eight-day self-drive tour of Namibia.

Fly from Dublin to Windhoek and pick up your rental car on arrival. Drive the short distance to Na’ankuse lodge and upon arrival check in to your lodge. You can discuss with lodge reception which optional tours you can take while there.

From N’ankuse transfer to Sossusvlei. Subtle shifting sand dunes sculpted by the wind, Sossusvlei is often referred to as the “Dune Sea”. Located in the heart of the Namib Naukluft Park, Sossusvlei facets an air of isolation and tranquility where one can find perspective and serenity amongst the orange dunes and ‘cracked white floor’ of the vlei (dried up saltpan). Upon arrival in Sossusvlei enjoy the rest of the day relaxing.

We will start very early on the morning of day 3 to catch the beautiful sunrise in Sossusvlei, and to avoid the most heat. Morning excursion into Sossusvlei & Deadvlei where you have the option of climbing the world’s highest sand dune, or simply stroll around the breathtaking Deadvlei area.

The highest dune being Big Daddy at 325 meters is the most accessible but toughest to take on. The reward however is a panoramic view of the Dead Vlei with the 900-year-old Camelthorn trees. The contrasts of the shadows on the dunes, the clear blue sky and blackened dead trees against the orange dunes is a must see when visiting Namibia.

On day 4 you will get the opportunity to fly in a Hot Air Balloon over the desert, a truly unique experience – kindly note this is not included in the program, but can be booked and paid for on the spot.

In the early afternoon transfer to Swakopmund. Situated between the Atlantic Ocean and Namib Dunes you will find a jewel of a town filled with historic buildings and landmarks creating the ambience of a small German town. Travelers can expect to dine at some of the finest restaurants overlooking the Atlantic, and enjoy luxury accommodation, often a stone throw away from the beach.

Various activities are offered in and around the coastal town and you’ll the get the opportunity to experience whatever suits you. Being one of Namibia’s main tourist towns visitors are welcomed by the locals and guaranteed friendly service and a memorable stay.

You have the next day free at leisure, where you can stroll through the beautiful town of Swakopmund and/or join some excellent guided tours in the area. There is enough to choose from and something to suit everyone’s interests. For example you can Camel ride or Quad bike in the Namib Desert, experience Sandwich Harbor where the sand dunes meet the Atlantic Ocean, sail on a Dolphin Cruise, Skydive, visit Spitzkoppe and so much more.

From Swakopmund drive to Erindi private game reserve. Erindi Private Game Reserve is a 79000 hectare gem in the heart of the Namibian landscape with an abundance of wildlife including rare and endangered species. Erindi is actively involved in leopard research, eco-friendly and boosts spectacular lodge and camping facilities.

Camp Elephant is built in a horse-shoe shape with a floodlit waterhole in the center. Whether you are camping or lodging in one of the fully equipped chalets, you are never more than 50 meters away from the waterhole. Then there is the Old Traders Lodge, elegant and spacious with all the comforts you can dream of overlooking one of many well frequented waterholes. An absolute must visit during your travels in Namibia.

On the morning of day 7, enjoy a true Safari Game Drive in an open truck In the afternoon enjoy a relaxing time at your lodge, and sit by the waterhole where the animals frequently come by for a drink. Sadly the following day is the end of your Namibia adventure. Drive back to Windhoek for your departure flight to Dublin.
