BAVARIA
More than just beer and pork knuckles, there’s a wealth of historical and cultural background behind the world’s biggest beer festival. The first Oktoberfest was held in October in the year 1810, in honour of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig's marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The celebrations were repeated and gradually the festival was prolonged and moved forward into September. During the opening ceremony landlords, brewery staff, beer hall bands and beer hall waitresses parade, with the first barrel of beer tapped by the Lord Mayor at midday with a resounding 'Ozapft is!' - the keyword for everyone to start partying!
One of the largest parties on earth and a celebration of Bavarian culture; fab beer, great food, a giant carnival and awesome music are central to the festivities. Bands perform in each tent mixing older German songs with more well-known contemporary music, whilst traditional Oompah bands play their brassy, grin-inducing variety of tunes, keeping the party going way past dark.
Each of the 6 main breweries in Munich have at least one 'tent' at the Beerfest grounds, along with various other temporary structures erected to keep the estimated 7 million visitors fed and watered, creating some mind dazzling stats in the process.
Beerhalls open from 10.30am - 11.30pm; with last drinks served at 10.30pm (Sundays start even earlier - first drinks at 9am!)

DAY 1: CHECK-IN TO OUR CAMPSITE
Meet your Busabout festivals team and check-in to your tent share accommodation at Camping Thalkirchen! Get comfortable and acquainted with the campsite and then it’s our social hour to meet and greet your fellow fest-mates. Take the shuttle into Munich centre for an orientation walk and dinner in a local beer hall or beer garden. Return shuttle after dinner back to the campsite to get some rest for tomorrow or continue partying at the campsite bar.
DAY 2: OKTOBERFEST
Let the fun begin! Your Guide will take you all down to the Oktoberfest grounds by early morning shuttle, we'll make sure you will be in the right place at the right time.
The Opening Parade* starts at 11am. The festival begins with a colorful parade through the streets of Munich to the Oktoberfest grounds. Horse and carts in traditional dress carry in the very beer kegs we will soon be drinking from! Watch the landlords make their festive entry to the Theresienwiese. (B)
DAY 3: OKTOBERFEST
Head down to The Oktoberfest grounds for another day! Soak up the Bavarian culture, take a bike tour, enjoy some of the festival rides...the choice is yours.
You also have the option to join our day trip to one of the most stunning parts of Bavaria to visit King Ludwig's famous Neuschwanstein Castle. This region is absolutely breathtaking and the castle itself was used as a model for Walt Disney's Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.
Don't miss the Riflemen's Parade*. This is one of the best and most colourful displays of Bavarian history, culture, and tradition. Watch regional costume groups, marching bands, 'troops' in historical uniforms, riflemen, thoroughbred horses, and even oxen, cows, and goats pass by in a 3-mile long procession. (B)

Time to leave! Check-out is at 10am

The 'Käfer Wiesn-Schänke' and the 'Weinzelt' are open until 1am. Last call for alcohol: 12:15am
