Tours
The medieval town of Tours has a cosmopolitan feel and has been referred to as a mini-Paris; it has 18th century avenues, formal public gardens and café-lined boulevards. There are museums to visit, as well as great shops and sightseeing spots. If you are a food-lover, then try to visit on the first Friday of the month for the marché gourmand which sees the finest regional produce spill across the Place de Résistance, although whenever you visit it is likely there will be a colourful market in full swing.
Azay-le-Rideau Château
Being situated in the Loire Valley means this parc is great for seeing some of France’s most spectacular châteaux, as well as vineyards and wine cellars. The château of Azay-le-Rideau is highly recommended - it is a fairytale castle brought to life with a fabulous sound and light show (son at lumière) which illustrates its history.
Aquarium de Touraine
For children to get up close to the animals they can go to the touch tank at Aquarium de Touraine. Here they have lots of things to marvel at, like the shark tunnel and feeding shows with the crocodiles. There is also a park with 45 miniature castles and miniature cars to ride in.
Zoo Parc de Beauval
One of the best zoos in Europe is located within easy reach of the parc. Zoo Parc de Beauval in the town of St Aignan has over 4000 animals, rare, beautiful and curious. You can watch the animals all day long but there are also sea lion and bird shows to keep the whole family captivated.
Chinon
Chinon is the hotspot for vineyards and wine tasting outlets. If you want to discover the secrets of how the wine is made then the caves of Monmousseau have guided tours around the labyrinth of caves where some of the area’s best sparkling wines are made.
Château d’Usse
Château d’Usse is a magical place – it was the inspiration of Sleeping Beauty. Hear the story told as you explore the castle then wander around the stunning gardens.
