As evidenced by the sheer number of markets, the Germans embrace Christmas wholeheartedly. This can be seen in the decorations on each street and in shop windows, as well as the beautiful Christmas trees.

Weihnachtszauber Gendarmenmarkt

The most popular market, Weihnachtszauber gets over 500,000 visitors each year. Creators from all over the world bring their unique handmade items to this market, and it's also a great place to try some good food. The market is surrounded around a huge Christmas tree, and there are concerts and performances here daily.

Berliner Weihnachtszeit

This market is spread over the famous Alexanderplatz Square, and the nearby Roten Rathaus. Enjoy music, stalls, food and Glühwein on the square, then look for the giant Ferris wheel to take you to the Roten Rathaus. This is one of the oldest markets in the city, and many stalls are decorated in a turn-of-the-century fashion. There is also a giant ice-skating rink here- the largest in Berlin.

This year, Berlin's Christmas Markets will open from 27th November to 31st December 2023.
