Fly from Cork and experience the best that Providence and Boston have to offer on this six-night New England holiday.
Founded in 1636, Providence is one of the oldest cities in the United States. The city sits about 70 minutes by car, or 50 minutes by train, from Boston. It features an eclectic mix of classical federal, victorian, modernist and post-modern architectural styles. Like Rome, the city of Providence sits nestled among seven hills.
You'll spend six nights in four-star accommodation in the centre of this historic city. Providence combines the accessibility and friendliness of a small town with the culture and sophistication of a big city.
Providence is geographically compact, allowing for easy exploration on foot or by bicycle. It has an ethnically diverse population, with several neighbourhoods featuring culture and foods from Italian, Portugese, Central American and Asian communities.
The famous poet Edgar Allan Poe was a regular fixture in Providence, as was the gothic author H. P. Lovecraft- he was born there. The city has an expansive park system, offering miles of walks, bike trails and scenic views.
The historic city of Boston has been the site of many important events throughout American history. There are a variety of walking tours and trails which shed light on these stories and the impact which carries through to today.
In addition, Boston is home to a wide selection of museums and galleries, including the New England Aquarium, Children's Museum, John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum and the Museum of Science.
There are about 20 farmers markets in Boston, and a thriving restaurant scene with an emphasis on seafood and local produce. Traditionally known as an Italian area, the North End neighbourhood is famous for its authentic Italian markets, restaurants and bakeries.
Visit Cheers Beacon Hill to see the Bull & Finch Pub, which was used as the bar exterior for the TV show Cheers. Coffee fans will want to check out Caffe Vittoria. Opened in 1929, the oldest Italian cafe in Boston displays a fascinating variety of vintage coffee-related paraphernalia.
See the Mapparium, an enormous, inside-out glass globe built in 1935. For something truly different, shop at Bodega- a high end clothing store accessed via a secret door behind a fake soft drinks machine.
Sports fans are in for a real treat in Boston, with Fenway Park (home to the Red Sox), TD Garden (home to the Boston Celtics) and Gillette Stadium (home to the New England Patriots) offering tours and exhibits.
Your holiday includes a day trip from Providence to Boston with a Hop On, Hop Off bus tour and two-course lunch.
